United Kingdom: Northwick Estate

Diverse substrate mix

Technical Data

  • Capacity: 1,063 kWel.
  • Input: Grass silage, oat silage, cattle manure, and various organic wastes

Because of the special feed-in tariff structure in the UK, there are always new challenges regarding the substrates to be used. In contrast to the German Renewable Energy Law, there are no financial subsidies in Great Britain for energy crops cultivated especially for biogas production.

In September 2010 Northwick Estate in Morton-in-Marsh successfully commissioned MT-Energie’s second biogas plant in the UK. The 1 MWel. biogas plant consists of two digesters, one secondary digester and a residue storage tank. With over 20 different input substrates, the plant has a diverse substrate mix. Due to the use of organic agricultural products, special requirements have to be met regarding the approval, storage, and shredding.

Different heat concepts and advanced business concepts were planned and discussed by the customer over the past few months. An implementation of these plans is about to commence. With this project MT-Energie has proven once again its professional, innovative and individual working method.
