There are reasons that we put so much emphasis on the realistic calculations of economic profitability before we truly take on a project. One should always be kept in mind: a biogas plant is not the same as a wind turbine or a solar collector.

The deciding factor as to whether a biogas system is a success is the biology. The profitability is tightly coupled with the stability and effectiveness of fermentation process, independent of what substrate is used.
